BIOGRAPHY
Born to missionaries to the UK from India, RAHIX grew up in inner city Birmingham in the 80s and 90s, witnessing the sometimes fractious coming together of cultures in a city being redefined: Aston Villa, Brit-Pop, Bhangra, Reggae, race-riots, posh sounding people from Worcester, Euro 96, Cool Brittania, Soho Road, etc
RAHIX initially studied graphics after finishing secondary school but, yearning to push creative boundaries ended up teaching himself the guitar, and - having purchased one from a student friend - started to learn to play songs like The Verve’s Lucky Man, Scar Tissue by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coffee and TV by Blur. Eventually RAHIX would leave graphics and instead study music, earning an HND in Popular Music Studies at South Birmingham College, in Digbeth. Specialising in learning Composition, this period was an intensely packed musical adventure, with days at college often going late on until the evening, jamming, practicing, producing.
Being something of an introvert, RAHIX found an emotional outlet in music that was otherwise difficult to find elsewhere. Often the notes and chords played replaced the lyrics in terms of expressing feelings. All of this feeds RAHIX’s style of music, which leans on Indie Rock and Electro/EDM most heavily. Lots of guitars, acoustic and soulful, to bluesy electric licks with gorgeous (in his opinion), overlapping EDM rhythms and textures, all setting moods and grooves to get lost in.
Being a lover of melody RAHIX has been influenced by a very wide range of music and styles. Video game music from the 90s from consoles like the SEGA Megadrive and the Super Nintendo was an early love. Listen to the music from World Cup Italia '90 or from Sonic 3 and try not to groove to it. The Beatles and their genius songwriting, Don’t Let Me Down, A Day In The Life and pretty much everything else they ever did. Loving the replayability of their music, RAHIX strives to keep songs shorter and tighter, so as not to oversaturate people with a song but rather encourage them to maybe play it again and again if they like it. Brit-Pop, Oasis, Blur, The Verve, The Cure (and so many of the bands who arose then)– the swagger of these bands and the wonderful music they created is a huge inspiration to RAHIX. Add to that the mix of European music and domestic dance music – Sash, Robert Miles, 2Unlimited, Haddaway, Right Said Fred – it goes on for days.
RAHIX has been fortunate to play at some incredible venues – having performed with long time friend and colleague Raj Kaul at London Diwali at Trafalgar Square to around 10, 000 people in 2023, and alongside another upcoming Indian artist and long-time brother Booboo at St Albans Mela to another similar sized crowd. Working together with these two for many years opened doors for us to perform live on Apache Indian’s Real Talk TV show twice, being broadcast internationally. 2023 was incredibly busy as RAHIX supported Raj Kaul with his UK tour, performing around 14 times up and down the country.
Currently RAHIX is busy writing and recording music he intends to release. With about 7 tracks in various states of completion, he is neck deep in microphones, cables, soundcards, jack to jack cables, YouTube videos on how to properly master a track and of course, snacks.
